The original Angels Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith descended from heaven to pay tribute to Aaron Spelling during the Emmy television awards on Sunday. Their presence along with the tribute to the late television producer, have managed to salvage what was left of the ceremony after Conan O'Brien's controversial opening skit.

Jaclyn managed to age very gracefully while Farrah looked like she went through a massive revision surgery for something that was badly done. She looked wretched. And cosmetic surgeons couldn't agree more.

drunkIf the findings of a study conducted by a group of researchers from the National Institute of Public Health in Copenhagen are proven beyond any reasonable doubt, expect liquor stores and pubs to register record profits.

Published in the May 27 issue of the British Medical Journal, the study suggests that daily drinking cuts heart disease risk for men. For middle-aged ones, that is. Some 22,400 women and more than 25,000 men between 50 and 65 years old participated in the study, which had the researchers monitoring the participants for a period of nearly six years.

    • Exercise Begins at 40 in: Diet and Exercise Tag(s):

      Technorati Tags: ,

For a lot of people, exercise is composed mainly of walking to the mailbox and back to their couches. Many have even gone through life doing a lot less physical activity than that. And by the time they reach that magic age of 40, they probably wouldn't leave their couches anymore, probably asking rhetorically, "What for? I'm 40 and closer to dying anyway."

Stick to that mentality and it's a certainty you'll be a lot closer to your date with the Reaper. But if you get that butt off that couch and start working out, even if you're 40 above, you can cut your risk of coronary heart disease and therefore live longer. At least that's what the German researchers featured in this United Press International report say.

    • Couch Potatoes Fine With Moderate Exercise in: Diet and Exercise Tag(s):

couch potatoI am a certified couch potato. At least that's what this fun couch potato test tells me. Out of a possible 100, I scored a 75, a high score by the website's standards. My score, the site tells me, indicates that I've got a serious case of "couch-potato-itis", that my idea of heaven is a comfy couch + giant screen TV + remote control + big bag of munchies.

Now that may be a bit too much. However, I do admit that lately, I spend more time in front of my not-so giant screen TV than I need to. With really interesting shows such as Lost and Desperate Housewives, along with guilty pleasures like Smallville and American Idol, can you really blame anyone for parking their butts on their worn-out (but comfy) couches for a longer period of time than usual?

Several weeks ago, we heard about Mariah's strange diet, which only consists of purple foods such as but not limited to grapes and plums. Purple foods are believed to have anti-aging properties and Mariah is determined to stop aging by munching mauve-colored meals three days a week.

Well, it looks like Mariah Carey was on the right track with her 'Purplification' of Mimi stint. The concept of using food to delay aging has already gained a worldwide approval as nations like Japan, and those across America and Europe are geared on taking food as an important factor in the quest for youthful beauty.

    • Moderate Fast Food Intake Still Bad in: Diet and Exercise Tag(s):

      junk food

      Technorati Tags: , ,

It has been said time and again that eating fast food day in and day out doesn't do us any good. Fast food is generally unhealthy, and could lead to obesity if we consume too much of it.

However, we often justify our fast food diet by saying that we're leading much too busy lives, and therefore could barely find the time or the energy to prepare supposedly healthy, home-cooked meals. And many of us try to take comfort in the assumption that as long as we eat fast food in moderation, our health wouldn't be in much danger.

A recent study, however, reveals that fast foods are bad, even in moderation.

Ronald McDonald is concerned about your kids' health. Sure.

McDonald's, the multinational food chain whose name has become synonymous with junk food, has the best interest of your child's health when it came up with the idea for McDonald's R Gym, a play area for kids equipped with exercise bikes, dance pads and other equipment that would keep them physically active while wolfing down tons of Big Macs and fries. • Dell recalls exploding batteries in: Toys For The Boys Tag(s):

      Technorati Tags: , ,

After that embarrassing and controversial explosion of a Dell laptop in Japan last June, Dell is in the news once again as it formally announced a recall of more than four million lithium-ion batteries that are believed to be potentially hazardous.

      Mobilized.com tells the story.

Although no official statement has appeared, The New York Times (NYT) says the company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have both confirmed the recall.

According to the report the said lithium-ion batteries were manufactured by Sony for use in Dell laptops between April 2004 and July 18 of this year.

Dell sold the batteries in 2.7 million laptops sold in the U.S and another 1.4 million sold overseas - equal to about 18 per cent of all Dell laptops made during the period and potentially costing the company as much as US$300 million to replace, says the NYT.

    • Fat grafting to augment breasts in: Female Perspectives Tag(s):

      Technorati Tags: , ,

Breast augmentation employs breast implants to augment the breasts. It uses either saline or silicone in order to enhance the appearance of the breasts by making them larger and firmer.

However, not all women are comfortable with having foreign objects (breast implants) planted inside their bodies. Though they like to have firmer and larger boobs, the thought of having something far from natural stuck inside their bodies is more than enough to drive them away from breast implants.

As cosmetic surgery evolves through time, this particular dilemma is now addressed through the presence of fat grafting, a procedure that involves transferring fat by liposuction from certain parts of the body such as the thighs and waists to another such as the face and breasts, in order to give them a more defined shape and contour.

    • Smoking and Aging in: Facial Plastic Surgery Tag(s):

      Technorati Tags: , ,

The popular ad line "Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health" has long been a failure in serving its purpose. I don't believe it was even effective in discouraging non-smokers from smoking; the same way that it has failed to convince smokers to stop smoking.

Now, we can dispose of that rusty line because something more persuasive has come into view. A new computer software is out to scare teens away from the nicotine vice. CBS 4 Boston tells the story.

These are perhaps the reasons why Star magazine claimed that she went through an extreme cosmetic surgery makeover. Shannen answered back with a vow to make Star magazine pay.
