Face Your Facial Problems

hands on faceI once had a classmate in high school with a terrible case of acne. His breakouts practically covered every square millimeter of his face that bullies at school (which, I'm ashamed to admit, included myself) called him not as "a guy with acne" but as "acne with a guy". It sounded really funny then.

Then I got my own case of the zits. A really big one.

The severity of my acne was nowhere near that of my classmate's, but the sight of my once unblemished face riddled with a seemingly endless stream of pustules was more than enough to make me realize there's nothing funny about it. Zits are painful, messy, and extremely embarrassing. And worse, it made me feel like I was being punished for being so mean to that "acne with a guy" classmate of mine. A case of karma, perhaps?

Anyway, I've tried almost every acne remedy friends and family could come up with. From facials to exfoliants, astringents to special anti-pimple soaps, but nothing seemed to work for me. It took eons before my face finally cleared up all by itself, but not before letting acne take its toll on my once smooth face, and in effect, on my self-esteem while growing up.

Luckily for today's acne sufferers, there is a wide range of acne treatments readily available to them. It is safe to say that virtually every case of acne can now be resolved. Even those with severe cases of acne can now look forward to a scar-free life.

Nowadays, the conspicuous scars usually left behind by severe acne can be remedied through a number of cosmetic procedures. One is laser resurfacing, which literally involves the lasering off of the top layers of skin. Then there's microdermabrasion, a process which requires the emission of crystals onto the surface of the skin, resulting in a gentle abrasion or "polishing" process. One really wonderful thing about microdermabrasion is that it has virtually no side effects, on top of the fact that patients can immediately resume normal activities after the procedure.

Now if only I could find a third job and save up...
