A recent global survey conducted by market researcher ACNielsen reveals that one in five consumers would consider going under the knife of a cosmetic surgeon.

The poll, which covered 22,780 Internet users in 41 markets worldwide, also shows that the most receptive to the idea of getting cosmetic surgery work done are the Russians. Reuters has more:

Nearly half of Russians surveyed said they would be prepared to have cosmetic surgery when they are older, followed by Greeks and people in Baltic countries.

However, 94 percent of Hong Kongers were against having surgery to enhance their looks as were 92 percent of Indonesians and 91 percent of Japanese and Malaysians.

Teenagers and 20 somethings were more receptive to the idea of cosmetic surgery later in life than older consumers, according to the survey.

  • In their 2006 statistics,

In their 2006 statistics, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported a 446% increase in the total number of cosmetic procedures since 1997! I work with a surgeon performing Long Beach breast enlargement, so I'm always researching numbers and what not. The same ASAPS statistics included the results of a consumer attitudes survey in which the asked, "would [you] consider cosmetic surgery for self, now or in the future?" 34 percent of women said yes, 18 percent of men.
