Even real-life tough guys go seek the help of cosmetic surgeons.
Ehud Olmert, the Prime Minister of Israel, had secret cosmetic eyelid surgery last week. The procedure, however, was done for medical, not cosmetic purposes.
From the International Herald Tribune:
Olmert informed his Cabinet on Sunday about the procedure, which took place Friday.
"You obviously see that my eyes are swollen. I underwent an eye treatment and everything is fine," he said, according to a participant in the meeting, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the news.
Eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a procedure to remove fat, usually along with excess skin and muscle, from the upper and lower eyelids, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below the eyes, features that make one look older.
David Baker, an official in the Prime Minister's office, said the procedure lasted 40 minutes under local anesthetic, and the prime minister was completely conscious throughout. He said the operation was done because Olmert was suffering from slight disturbances to his vision.
Good for him. With the procedure, not only will his vision improve. So will his appearance.
