Kiss Hay Fever Away

passion kissAllergic to pollen? Then go liplock someone for about half an hour and kiss your hay fever miseries goodbye.

At least that's what a research team from the Satou Hospital in Japan is saying.

According to the scientists, a 30-minute kiss reduces allergic reaction to pollen. The tests they've conducted, they say, show that smooching for that particular length of time relaxes the body, and reduces the production of histamine, a chemical cell given out in response to allergens.

This is absolutely good news for millions of sufferers who have been enduring hay fever-related symptoms such as asthma attacks, itchy eyes and runny noses all their lives.

But something about the study bothers me. The scientists reportedly made test subjects kiss with songs like Elton John's Can You Feel The Love Tonight and My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion playing in the background.

I'm no scientist, so I'm not questioning the research team's methods. What I'm questioning is their collective musical taste. No invert kissself-respecting couple would be caught dead kissing to the tune of The Lion King soundtrack, much less the most nauseating love song ever, from the biggest-selling film of all time.

Seriously now, if kissing is all we need to finally rid ourselves of pollen-related allergies, then let's all grab our spouses and dates and smooch away, for half an hour, on a regular basis. A piece of advice though: don't do it while suffering from hay fever symptoms, such as itchy eyes, asthma attacks and most importantly, runny noses. Kissing with snot streaming from your nose isn't healthy.
