In today's world of information at your fingertips, men are becoming more aware of cosmetic surgery than ever before. Armed with better knowledge, a growing number of men are turning to plastic surgeons to help them look better and younger.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' annual report, men constituted twelve percent of cosmetic surgery patients last year. The report also contains information on the top five male cosmetic procedures in 2005.
Topping the list is nose reshaping, which also happens to be the top male cosmetic surgical procedure in 2004. However, the number of operations done in 2005 is slightly lower at 99,680 compared to 109,971 procedures the previous year.
Also retaining its 2004 ranking at second place is hair transplantation. The 39,244 procedures last year are also lower than 2004's 43,054 hair transplantations.
The number of men who had liposuction last year, however, increased to 35,673 compared to the 32,489 procedures registered in 2004. Liposuction, the third most popular procedure among men last year, is also the most sought-after cosmetic surgical procedure overall in 2005.
Rounding up the top five are eyelid surgery and breast reduction in men, which account for 32,988 and 16,275 procedures, respectively, last year.
Non-invasive cosmetic procedures were also popular among men in 2005. Botox injections take the top spot, followed by microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, chemical peel and laser skin resurfacing in that order.
