This is not actually very surprising since that awesome Nintendo Wii came into view. But it is worth noting that Nintendo beat the hell out of Sony in the game sales department.
PC World reports that results of an industry survey reveal that cumulative sales of software, hardware, and accessories amounted to a total of $838.6 million, a 20 percent increase over the April 2006 sales. And Nintendo dominates the hardware realm once more.
Nintendo consoles and handhelds are selling like hotcakes, with the perennially best-selling DS Lite outselling all other systems with 471,000 sold in the American market. The Nintendo Wii also managed to surpass the PS2 and all other home consoles with 366,000 units sold.
The aging Sony console, PS2, sold 194,000 units but this is very low compared to the 280,000 units it sold last March. The PSP is also not doing very well. It only gained momentum after its price cut. Anyhow, it managed to take 4th with 183,000 units sold.
Believe it or not, the PS3 was performing poorly in the sales department with only 82,000 units sold last month. And this is a 37 percent drop from the 130,000 units sold in March. Sony needs to do something about this. It looks like the advent of Wii really made the company struggled so hard in getting the support that it thinks it deserves.
