Did you know that there is such as thing as a hair pulling disorder? Although rare, it does exist, and it's called trichotillomania. People suffering from this condition repeatedly pull their own hair out, and hair loss is an all too-common result.

And unfortunately, there is hardly an effective treatment for this disorder, according to a study led by Dr. Douglas W. Woods of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Reuters gives more details:

Up to 3.4 percent of adults may suffer from trichotillomania, Woods and his colleagues note in their report in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Hair-pulling appears to help people relieve tension, but little is known about why people develop the disorder or if it is related to other psychological problems, such as depression and anxiety.

  • Now Hair This!

Remember Moe from the Three Stooges? He was constantly pulling hair out... from Larry's head. I've not only heard about it, but I've seen it... and it was hilarious! And I work with a dermatologist in San Diego who offers those in La Jolla laser hair removal. I've even been known to pull at my own hair, when I'm stressed. But, trichotillomania? Never heard of it. But, we need a prescription drug now to stop it! Or, at least a drug to grow hair back once we've pulled it all out!

    so over it

i hate this problem i have. i feel worse and worse each day and there seems to be nothing that can help me. i wish i could go back to the very day i pulled my first hair and not have done it!!!!!
