I guess it is needless to say that acne is truly disgusting, but I am saying it anyway. Too many people have already been made victims of this terrible condition. Too many have already lost self-confidence and some even lost their lives due to the devastating effect this condition has brought them. I should know because I've been there. Good thing I didn't treat my condition so seriously or I wouldn't be here anymore, writing this blog entry.

Acne has long been a problem for adolescents and adults alike, and it seems that it is here to stay for as long as it likes. Well, too bad for the zits, this is no longer the case as of the moment. They won't be here for long. Modern techniques for clearing up acne are gearing up to get rid of it once and for all.

At last, acne sufferers can now put an end to their misery. Aside from laser skin resurfacing and microdermabrasion, victims of breakouts can now find freedom in this new noninvasive aesthetic procedure called PhotoDynamic Therapy. PRWeb reveals the details.

PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) involves the application of a clear, topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan®. The Levulan® is left on the treatment area for 30 -90 minutes, at which time it is activated with an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. During an IPL treatment, a handheld device delivers a series of gentle pulses of light to the skin. There is no downtime because the laser energy bypasses the epidermis and is absorbed by the deeper dermal layer of skin.

"We have seen tremendous results with Photodynamic Therapy in the treatment of active acne for adults and teens," said Dominic Brandy, M.D., founding medical director of The Skin Center Medical Spa. "Initial reports show that over 50 percent of patients treated with moderate to severe acne have remained clear long-term. Those results are truly amazing."

Those who have gone tired of using various cosmetic products that offer no apparent results may finally find comfort and relief from new techniques such as this. Acne has to be given a strong treatment or it won't go away. And this procedure looks like the one which will give the final blow.

  • my skin worsened severely after my first treatment!!!

I recieved my first treatment of the photodynamic therapy about two weeks ago! since then there has been no peeling. Instead I have very painful whiteheads all over my skin as well as new big pimples!!! I use neatrogena acne clearing face wash and a light application of cetaphil face lotion. A few minutes after I apply the lotion is when the whiteheads really surface! My skin has gotten severly worse each and every day after my treatment and I dont want to go through all the pain and expence for more treatments if it will only make my skin worse!!! Please help me!!! One more thing, they used acetone to clean the skin before the treatment, isnt that the main ingredient in nail polish remover??? could I be allergic to something they used? thank you!
