Since the nominees for the Oscars-yes, the Oscars---had just come in, the runup to the ultimate awards season in Hollywood means more buzz and business for the local economy of Los Angeles.
According to a report from the business channel Bloomberg demand for plastic surgery services in the kingdom of Hollywood rise as early as two to three months.
Naturally it picks up weeks before the Academy Awards are held in the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. Want proof (as if you needed one) of this claim?
Then look at Exhibit A, namely comedienne Joan Rivers who admitted to having two facelifts and "assorted bits and pieces" during the latter course of her 72 years of existence in this earth. It is assumed of course she didn't have plastic surgery as a kid.
Showbiz being facile as it is for its fascination of beauty and youth means there will always be a steady stream of business for the best in cosmetic surgery clinics in Hollywood and nearby areas.
Check out these prices; eye and brow lifts which includes filling in hollowing under the eyes, costs $6,000 to $10,000 while facelifts run from $15,000 to $20,000.
Those are for treatments that require about several weeks of recovery at least for the recipients.
And then there are plastic surgeons who offer home services or "quickie facial rejuvenation" treatments for reportedly twice that amount.
For removing those tired, sagging facial lines the "drug of choice" appears to be Restylane in lieu of Botox, since actors are afraid that too much of the substance may freeze their mugs faces and render their features expressionless.
Not a good idea if the actor happens to receive that once in a lifetime award and prepares to go teary-eyed as one reads his/her acceptance speech.
At any rate it only goes to show that in Hollywood as well as elsewhere the costs of cosmetic surgery and beauty treatments run high for both men and women.
