PS3 big in Japan

  The highly-anticipated Sony PlayStation 3 made its debut in Japan last Saturday, and, if the thousands of people who have stayed up all night outside stores just to be among first in line to get a glimpse of Sony's newest video game console are any indication, the PS3 is a hit, rather high price tag be damned.

  China View gives us the goods:

  Sony's long-delayed next-generation game console, PlayStation 3, made its highly anticipated debut in Japan on Saturday with greetings from thousands of fans.

  Lines of young men stayed up all night to be among the first to buy the PS3. Outside an electronic store, Bic Camera's flagship Tokyo store, more than 1,000 people queued for their chance to buy a PlayStation 3.

  Some shops even chose to run a lottery system to ensure violence didn't break out amongst fans trying to get their hands on the new console.

  We'll see if the PS3 will taste the same kind of success when it's finally launched in the United States a few days from now.
