The highly-anticipated Sony Playstation 3 launch will finally take place in November this year.
According to the MarketWatch.com news article, the much-hyped Playstation 3 will be released in two versions: one with a 20-gigabyte hard drive and another with a 60-gigabyte capacity. The console also features a digital high-definition video connector, a memory card reader and a Wi-Fi adapter.
The PS3's controller has also been revised from the boomerang-shaped one that Sony has been publicizing in the past to something that resembles the current controller. This time, Sony says it will offer a wireless and motion-sensing Bluetooth controller.
But with the prices Sony Corporation has set for both versions, I think I should change the first sentence of this post to: "Rich gamers rejoice!"
That's right: At $499 for the 20-gig version, and one hundred dollars more for the 60-gig PS3, guys like me would probably have to take a third job and save up for a year or two just to be able to buy that hardware. It is that expensive, more expensive in fact, than the current top-of-the-line videogame console, Microsoft's Xbox 360. PS3, it goes without saying, is the most expensive game console ever produced.
Japan (naturally) will serve as the PS3's launching pad on November 11. North America, Europe and Australasia will then follow suit on the 17th of the same month.
Now we'll have to see how much an improvement over Playstation 2 this thing is. That is, if any of my well-to-do buddies ever get their hands on one.
