Generally, tattoos are pretty cool and all that. But since getting a tattoo involves, well, breaking the skin, it is in your best interest to get your tattoos from licensed sources, since they usually follow standard hygiene practices.
Get them from basically fly-by-night tattoo "artists" and there's a possibility you'll end up like the people in this Reuters report:
People who get tattoos from unlicensed sources are at risk of developing a drug-resistant bacterial skin infection, federal health officials warn.Six recent outbreaks of infections with this "superbug," methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have been traced to unlicensed tattoo artists, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
MRSA infection typically manifests as abscesses or areas of inflammation on the skin, though it can also lead to more serious problems such as pneumonia, blood infections or, in some cases, necrotizing fasciitis, also referred to as the "flesh-eating disease."
According to Reuters, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported six tattoo-related outbreaks involving 34 people who have just gotten their tattoos from unlicensed tattoos artists.
Meanwhile, there are other measures to employ in order to get rid of that regrettable tattoo. A popular article on Wrecking Balm Tattoo Removal Cream drives that point home.
Getting a tattoo is a painful enough proposition. Don't add fuel to your pain by having your tattoo done by someone who probably doesn't even use sterilized or single-use needles, tattoo guns and inks. Unless you're a big-time masochist, of course.
