computer games COMPUTER role-playing games are the geek's updated version of the board games popular in the 80s as well as the "cowboys and Indians" and "cops and robbers" games played by the old folks in their time.

Thanks to advancing computer technology role-playing games (RPGs) have reached new peaks of popularity to draw in even the adults and female demographics who usually consider these as nothing more than male juvenile entertainment.

The concept of RPG computer games takes the story-telling and participative elements of previous role-playing games acted out by children into a new level by immersing the participant into a virtual world where the possibilities are only limited by one's imagination.

It has become so popular in fact that RPG games had become a subject of much online discussion and even been converted into commercial film fare, as evidenced by recent movies like "Resident Evil", "Doom" and the soon to be released "Silent Hill."

Unlike single person shooters or combat/action adventure games which usually involve a first person perspective, RPGs involve teams of virtual participants controlled by either one or two players.

Among the more popular online RPGs are the "Dungeons and Dragons" series that inspired similarly themed sword and sorcery adventures such as the "Final Fantasy" series and even the quirky "Kingdom Hearts" game that features Disney characters.

Other popular RPG games include the multi-awarded "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" game and its spin-off "Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords."

And so, whether one plays a knight, a soldier in World War II, an inter-galactic adventurer or even a super-hero, RPGs help fulfill that fantasy by providing a virtual outlet that enables you to ride your imagination.
